The Basics

When Omega created the Seamaster Aqua Terra Chronometer it was influenced by some design elements which had characterized some great Omega wristwatches in the past. One of these was the 1960 Automatic Seamaster. The Aqua Terra is a fitting homage to its timeless design but what’s inside its case would make its ancestor proud. Like the 1960 Automatic Seamaster, it has a stainless steel case and a stainless steel bracelet. Its lugs are reminiscent of those on its ancestor and the Teak Concept opaline silver dial also calls to mind the silvered dial of its predecessor. But the Seamaster Aqua Terra Chronometer also represents evolution and technical innovation. It is powered by the exclusive Omega Co-Axial calibre 8500 which delivers extraordinary precision and durability. Its domed, scratch-resistant sapphire crystal reveals a dial with the vertical lines which have defined the Aqua Terra line as both sporty and fashionable. Like the 1960 Automatic Seamaster, it has a date window at 3 o’clock. The transparent caseback makes it possible to observe the precision movement of the Co-Axial calibre. The 41.5 mm watch is water resistant to 150 metres (500 feet). A testimony to the self-winding watch’s accuracy is its COSC certification as a chronometer. The family resemblance is undeniable and there’s no question: the 1960 Automatic Seamaster would be envious of its talented descendant. Seamaster ref: 231.10.30.61.55.001
